  • charmed

charmed is such an amazing show, even with all its inconsistencies. we follow prue, piper, and phoebe halliwell, 3 sisters who are also destined to be the most powerful witches of all time. the show goes through a lot of changes in its run-time, though i think there are 3 most significant ones. first, losing shannen doherty as prue. originally, i did not like prue in the first season, as i felt she was too bossy and cold (though i understand now why she was so closed off). however as season 2 and 3 went on, i really fell in love with her character. SPOILER prue’s death at the end of season 3, and the introduction of paige as the 4th sister is significant change 1. the loss of prue feels natural, as show creator constance m burge stuck around o see through the transition. however, once she left (significant change 2) and holly (piper’s actress) and alyssa (phoebe’s actress) come on as producers (significant change 3) which sees the whole tone of the show change. there isn’t always a clear through line, but i love the magic, the love, and the sisterhood.

  • supernatural

supernatural, the show that still haunts tumblr to this day LOL. i absolutely ADORE this show! sam and dean winchester, brothers and hunters, but they hunt supernatural beings????? the boys have to live on the road chasing monsters, demons, and saving the world. i remember seeing them commit credit card fraud, making fake ids and socials, thinking it was totally normal and not something you’d easily get caught for T_T. but then dean was being tracked by the fbi soooo… the show goes on for 15 seasons, and the first 5 are what was originally drawn out to be the whole show. After the 5th season, things start to go off the rails a bit in the best possible way. this show is funny, it’s heartbreaking (how many times can the leads die…), and most of all it’s GOOD. the acting is great, the commitment to what is happening on screen is amazing, and the relationships the cast have with each other off screen is really heartwarming.

  • doctor who

the doctor, a timelord who can regenerate and is for some reason fixated on humanity. this show dates back to 1963, ad is still ongoing! I’m unfortunately only halfway through the 12th doctor, but honestly they’ve all been lovely. i started with the revival series, which takes off with the 9th doctor (christopher eccleston) and rose tyler, his human companion. doctor who has this really great way of building up a story through multiple arcs, ad the climax with rose and the 9th was something i still cry over. i don’t know, doctor who has always has a way f making me feel seen. there’s a ton of open lgbtqia+ characters, who are loved, which made 12 year old me feel comfortable. the stories they tell also feel so well thought out. any arc that comes up has few holes (at least in the revived series), and i feel that each doctors exit is so beautiful. i can’t lie that david tennant was my favorite doctor, but matt smith i think had the most heartbreaking exit i don’t want to spoil TOO much but i cannot recommend this series enough.

  • interview with the vampire

interview with the vampire is now a show, but is also part of a 13-book series, and was an amazing movie in the 90s. this show has done such justice to the books i have been so excited to follow it! season two wlll be out soon, and i will be ready every week with my popcorn. the show has made a few changes, like the story shifting 200 years (which is the most glaring one), but honestly i think all the pieces fit well. we pick up in 2022, with louis now doing a SECOND interview with a non-vampire daniel, and he’s living with armand in dubai. the soul of the books is there, as louis and lestat are finally properly canonically in a romantic relationship with each other! if you’ve ever read any of the books, it is very clear that all if not most of the vampires are at least bisexual LOL. i love seeing the nuances from later books be current in the tv show, it’s honestly a great adaptation.

  • succession

kieran culkin was the main sell of this show for me, if i’m being honest. i’m not great at following series in general, but especially ones like succession which feel so dense. but for kieran culkin, anything (-‿◦☀). the show =, at its core, is a tragedy. there’s some funny moments, there are some heartwarming ones, but all in all everything ends in tragedy. we follow the roy family, who are meant to be a juxtaposition to the murdoch family (own fox news empire). we follow the roy family fight over which of the 3 siblings will take over the company for their father. the siblings love each other, but the want their father’s approval more than anything. watching how they scheme to get one over on their father, play both sides, push loved ones away, i don’t know i ate it up! the acting is phenomenal, and the writing and directing are on a different level. and of course, kieran culkin <3

  • parks and recreation

parks and rec is such a classic, i love her. leslie knope is such a beautiful and misunderstood character in the beginning. she’s extremely passionate, and very anxious, but all of her hard work is for her community and for her peers, i can’t help but love her. the whole cast complements each other so well, and having ann as a best friend, along with ron as a mentor i think fit so well. ann was also a ball of anixety, but in a way that leslie could work with and vice versa. when ben came into the show, i was so so worried that the no fraternizing would be the end of them! parks and rec did such a good job of making me believe that leslie and ben were doomed not to last T_T. all in all, i feel like though this show started styled as the office, i ended up liking it much more and feeling that the characters were more well-rounded.

  • jersey shore

I LOVE THE JERSEY SHORE!!!!!!!! i cannot overstate how much i love this show. we follow 8 guidos; sammi, jenni, snooki, angelina, vinny, pauly, mike, and ron. the roommates live in the shore house and work at the shore store for the duration of filming. they have no access to ANY electronics, can’t read books, or even pass notes between each other. this means that any interaction they have is filmed, and left them with little to do except party all summer, reality shows are full of drama, and jersey shore was no different. angelina leaves during season one, comes back for season two, but then leaves permanently towards the end of season two. she is later replaced by deena who lasts the duration of the show. my most favorite moment i think is the note saga during season two, and also snooki’s iconic beach arrest. “i’m a good person!”

  • love death and robots

love death and robots is such a fun show! just about every episode is done by a different animation studio, and they’re all influenced with a twinge of scifi. my favorie episode though is the one above, jibaro. soldiers are moving through the forest on horseback, with spoils and in search of more. they stumble upon a riverbank laden with gold coins and jewels, but as soon as they touch it, the golden woman springs forth and begins to sing for them. her song enchants them to dance and jump and kill each other until there are none left to take her treasure. however, one of the men was deaf, and thus unaffected by her song. without spoiling, he gets his (¬、¬). the detail in her dance and her costume is so amazing, i rewatch the episode for that alone.

  • american horror story

i’ve been following american horror story since it first came out in 2011, and honestly there’s only one season of the show that i don’t like. it’s now on season 11, so to only have one weird one is pretty impressive! the show is a seasonal anthology, and thus far we’re meant to believe that each story occurs in the same universe. here and there we have easter eggs from other seasons pop up which are always really fun to catch. as the seasons move on, the idea of horror evolves. season one has a sort of classic horror element; haunted house, school shooter, assault. season two moves onto asylum abuse, aliens, and serial killers. season three gives us witches and so on and so forth. the horror decisions are really lovely and you can jump into any season you feel like!
